There are two main choices.

1. Install a blog on your website (recommended)

Installing a blog on your website is highly recommended because if you blog on a service like blogger the content isn’t really yours. The website your content is on can be turned off at any time. First off download and unzip WordPress here. Then you want to create a database. Go to my My SLQ databases.

Then name your data base by filling in the form and pressing create database. Save this name including the beginning extension (alterng2_ in this case) because you will need it for later. For example you could name your database wordpress by putting wordpress in the field and your database would be alterng2_wordpress. But remember your extension (alterng2_) will be different.

After you create the database you will need to create a user if you have not already. Same thing just enter the use name and give it a password. Save the user name and password to a text file so you have it for the later steps.

Once you have create the user you need to add the user to the database. Simply select the user from the drop down menu then select the database from the drop down menu and click add user.

After you add the user to the database it will ask you for the privileges. Select all privileges and press make changes.

The next step is to rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.

Once that is completed you need to open your wp-config.php file and enter in your database information, use name, and password. Don’t forget to put the extension in front ( in the example above it would be alterng2_). Sometimes but not for most hosts you need to change the host name field. You can contact your hosting company if you need that information.

The next thing to do is to use a FTP program like FileZilla to upload the files to your server. If you have any problems with this you can ask your hosting company.

If you want the blog to be on your domain’s root like this one is just upload the files there. But you can also install it in a directory like Blog and then the blog will be on www.yoursite.com/Blog.

After that your almost done. All you need to do now is run the install script. Go to www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php or if you installed it in a directory like blog go to www.yoursite.com/Blog/wp-admin/install.php

Putting contextual advertising like AdSence is a good way to monitize your blog if you have no other way. On high traffic sites this can be thousands of dollars. Here are some of the mainstream contextual advertising services.

AdSence
Chitika (lower CTR ,click through rate, than AdSence but higher Cost Per Click)
Kontera
InfoLinks (similar to Kontera but reported to have much higher earnings – some say as high as 80% higher)

Here are some tips on AdSence.

Make a medium box (300×250) directly under the headline with the text wrapped will prove to be a big performer. Also putting the Goggle advanced search at the top of every page can be a big earner. The leaderboard 728×90 and the wide skyscraper 160×600 round out the top performing ads.

I encourage testing your AdSence earnings. I have found that a medium box under the first headline with a search box at the top and an image ad all the way at the bottom of the page below everything near the foot perform well. But you need test what works for you.

To do an accurate test you want to test in approximately 3 week intervals. This gives enough time to let the algorithms work and for you to get an accurate understanding of what to expect.

Another thing to note is to use multiple medium boxes on longer pages and when your page is done give them something to click. After your content on the page is over give them an AdSence ad to click on.

Chitika Any Good?

In short yes and no. It is similar to Amazon’s style of product ads but instead of pay per sale it is pay per click. If you can get people to click on these ads they will pay more than AdSence but the very nature that it is product focused makes the CTR lower. So it is worth testing but AdSence is usually the standard.

Kontera & InfoLinks

Kontera and InfoLinks are those horrible green and blue double underlined ads that you see on some sites like this one. The double underlined words are ads.

You put in a piece of code on your webpage and the system automatically inserts ads. It can be a nice boost to your earnings if your monezation technique is mostly to be an infopreneur.

As stated above InfoLinks seems to be the winner but I recommend testing. Try one out and see which is best for you.

A Tip To Increase AdSence Earnings By As Much As 23%

Look at your AdSence data and remove ads from low performing webpages. If your getting 1 cent a click or no clicks at all remove it. You will increase your income because the visitors will go to other pages and click better performing ads.

The income per ad is based on the keyword worth of Goggle. Something about car loans will be worth more than fish tacos. So you can also go to the Google keyword tool and search for high paying keywords (you can find it under the search filters – turn on avg. CPC and shoot for the high ones) and create pages for these.

Although your search engine traffic will be low you can set up the navigation on your site to funnel traffic to these pages. It is more about the CPC payout than the organic traffic in this case.
