One of the best ways to drive traffic to your business is to submit an article to a directory that will get your name, brand, service or product to a whole new audience of potential customers.
Articles let you establish yourself in the industry and attract readers and people interested in the subject matter to consider you as a well-versed expert on your services. So article submissions both solidify your reputation among existing readers and customers, while attracting new people who agree with or appreciate your topic.
The biggest issue is finding the right article directory for your topic, audience, style and goals.
You want something that searches will pick up and put high in the rankings. You write an article, usually 300-500 words, maximized for certain keywords. Your aim at all times is to write with search engine optimization (SEO) in mind.
Writing the article with the proper keyword density (usually 2-3%) and number of links (if the directory allows) is the first step.
An article directory is a site that posts articles written according to certain guidelines. Usually, they have keyword specifications, anchor text and link limits. They have strong backlinks in the articles that will lead readers to the article submitter’s business and site and drive traffic by targeting the articles toward the right niche audience.
The first thing to look when you decide to submit an article is if a directory is listed at the top of the search rankings. You want to check its rankings in general and in your industry.
Article directories are gauged by traffic and page rank. There are lists of directories all over the internet, but to be effective in your industry, it’s best to look a little further. You want to check industry sites, groups and message boards and see where the people you want to reach are reading their informational sources.
Ask around if you are in a local business group and see what is popular in your area too, especially if you have a physical location where you are trying to drive foot traffic.
Then join a few of the directories. Some are simple and you basically just fill out some forms and start submitting. But the ones that are ranked higher will require some writing samples to prove you are human and can speak and write in English, or the language you are signing up to write in. Then you can look for topics they have in your industry or write on whatever interests you at that time.
You submit an article on their work desk. Some will put it right up, but most will put editors on at least your first few articles. Regardless of the editing system, it is likely your first article could be up within a week and then the subsequent ones much faster and easier, once you get used to the system and they get used to your writing.
Your article goes up on a well known website and you’ll see how easy it is to submit an article, have it published and share it with faithful customers and new readers and searchers.
